The Queen excluder ensures the queen doesn't lay eggs in the honey supers. Honey tainted with brood comb does not taste good to the western palate. Placed between the brood boxes and the honey supers, queen excluders allow worker bees to pass through the screen but not the queen.
Make sure your colony has enough brood and food storage space before adding a queen excluder to a hive. In the Northwest, this is typically considered to be two deep brood boxes. This equates to two filled 9 5/8” boxes or three filled 6 5/8” boxes.
Made from galvanized steel, our metal queen excluders are strong, durable and will not warp. Compared to others on the market, our queen excluders are high quality at a very affordable price.
Can be purchased with a Queen Excluder Cleaning Tool.
